Remy, Virgin, raw Hair, closure, frontals, HD lace, plucking, knots bleaching, etc. When you are newbies, you can very quickly find yourself overwhelmed by these terms you do not exactly know the meaning of. Making a clear choice about a wig or extensions can be a daunting task in this case. But keep in mind that, millions of people around the world wear wig every day. So, you are not alone.
Good news! We are here for you. Elka is dedicated to helping you from start to finish.
Here is a 3-step guide to help make the right choice.
Before we start, you have to answer this question: why do you want to start wearing extensions or wigs. It is important for you and for us, to have a clear reason for that. This process helps to define exactly your need. There are tones of reasons why people wear wigs: hair loss, medical condition, protective style, change for a new hairstyle. Which one is yours?
There are some examples of questions you could answer to yourself: What is your frequency use? Daily? Weekly? By month? Is it for a special occasion only? What represent hair extensions for? etc.
Step 1: The Look
This step is the most delicate, it must be done in a meticulous way. It will help you to choose the look and hairstyle you want to try. At this point you have to precise the length you want, is it short or long hair? The hair texture, are you more comfortable with wavy/curly hair? Or do you prefer something classic and elegant like straight hair? You can also think about density. It is about volume; this will tell you how many bundles you need to achieve your look. Our hair can be bleached and colored to reach a great range of hairstyles. Are you looking for natural color or do you want to get out of your comfort zone and try something different?
Step 2: The Hair
At this step, you must choose the origin and quality of the hair. We offer hair from India, Malaysia, and Cambodge. You may not know the difference between them but that is ok! Overall, three factors are considered: texture, durability, and maintenance.
The texture is mainly associated with the origin of the hair. Indian hair is recognized for its volume and thickness. they allow, without too much effort to create a look with a good density while keeping their fluidity.
Malaysian hair tends to be smooth and thin, ideal for light hairstyles.
As for the Cambodian hair, it is the one that blends the most with afro straightened hair. it has a particularly coarse texture.
Durability depends on the quality of hair. At ELKA we do not offer Remy hair, we focus on virgin and raw hair. For regular use, virgin hair can last between 6 months to a year, for raw hair is up to 3 years with proper care.
The maintenance level also depends on the hair quality. The fact is, the more you have good quality hair, the more you will need high maintenance. So, raw hair which is the best quality in the hair industry requires the must good proper care. Good and regular hydration etc.
Step 3: The closure
This is the last step but not the least. Closure and frontals are made with lace and used for wig making and complete weaving installation. They have the same goal, but the main difference is in the size of each. The classic dimension of closure is 4 inches by 4 and that of a frontal 13 inches by 4.
The closure will cover a portion of the top of the head as long as the frontals cover the whole. It goes from ear to ear. (see photo below)
Your choice here depends on the result you are looking for. for example, if you like to style your hair backward, it is better to opt for a frontal. otherwise, a closure will do the job.
It is important to note that the use of a frontal requires more preparation to have a natural result. it needs to be customized a minimum before the first installation.
For my newbies here this is not an option that we recommend for a start.
Going towards closure is a more judicious choice and when you are comfortable enough and equipped, the introduction of a frontal would be more possible.
